We can all agree that cleaning windows seems like an easy and basic job, but we never manage to leave them 100% clean 👎🏻 . There is always dust, stains and even marks from the washing itself, and to top it off, even if you manage to keep them perfect, they stay clean as long as the last French fry on a plate.
Many times, even when we do a general exterior cleaning of the car, marks are left on windows and mirrors. So in this blog, we are going to explain why and how we can avoid it . ✅
1. WHY
Rain, dust, untreated water, lime, and a long etcetera are the thousands of reasons why you cannot get your windows the way you would like, and if you do, it doesn't last long. ⏰
In addition to being an aesthetic issue, it is also a safety issue 🚨, since the accumulation of dust, mud or poor cleaning can reduce visibility through the windows by up to 70% when driving.
2. HOW TO CLEAN THEM
As with everything in life, there is no one right way to do things, and this is no different. We are going to explain two different ways to leave your windows looking like new, depending on the amount of dirt accumulated and the time it has been in the area.
👉🏻 Dry cleaning : If you don't have too much accumulated dirt and the little that you have hasn't been there for a long time, you can do a dry cleaning without any problem, but always with care and following the little tricks that we are going to reveal to you.
Mainly, to remove dirt and leave them looking like new, we recommend a Glass Cleaner to remove any accumulated marks and dust residue. In order to have the best possible result, we can advise you to do a 1️⃣ first pass with one side of the cloth to remove all this dirt , and once clean, a 2️⃣ second pass with the other side of the cloth to seal the product and polish the area.
👉🏻 Cleaning with water : If you are not passionate about cleaning windows, you probably have a good collection of dust and lime marks all over the area 🚩. So, to take the best possible care of your windows and mirrors, it is always advisable to soften all this dirt so as not to scratch them, and for this we recommend a Snow Shampoo or a Neutral Ph Shampoo . Thanks to these foams, you will be able to soften and remove the most embedded dirt , and then start the dry cleaning that we have explained to you before: Glass cleaner, cleaner, and polisher for plastics and rubber, and... Like new! ✨
3. BASIC TIPS
✅ Apply the product cold: we repeat ourselves more than with garlic, but as we have said on previous occasions, this works for any car cleaning product. If you apply any product with the area hot, the only thing you will achieve is that the product in question dries out and becomes patchy , making it impossible to spread.
✅ From top to bottom: It's not a dance, but if you clean your windows with water, always do it from the top of your car to the bottom to prevent all the product from dripping and leaving marks ⛔, which is precisely what we want to avoid.
✅ On both sides: If you do the dry cleaning that we have mentioned, it is ESSENTIAL that in addition to cleaning them on the outside , you also clean them on the inside of your car. This way you will avoid dust accumulating on either side and you will say goodbye to the wonderful handprints of your travel companions. 💼
✅ Insects and bird droppings: If mosquitoes and bird droppings are the usual sight on your windows, you should remove them before you get to work. To do this, we recommend using a specific product to remove these types of stains such as Insect Cleaner and softening them with Snow Shampoo .
✅ Don't overuse the product: When using any of these products, don't apply too much. If you don't have enough product, you can always apply a little more, but if you overuse it, you'll create an indestructible mess that's very difficult to remove.
4.HOW TO AVOID IT
❌ Dry the area: the water that is usually used is not usually osmotized, which causes small lime deposits to form all over the bodywork and windows, so to avoid these hateful marks, dry your windows and mirrors with a Drying Towel !
❌ Water and dust repellent: If you have recently washed your windows or mirrors and you don't want to do it again for a while, but you want to keep it intact, use a Water and Dust Repellent that protects the entire area and does not leave water marks or dirt.
❌ Don't roll down the windows after cleaning: the first commandment of the Detailing world. If you've done the job of a century and you roll down the car windows when you're done, you'll leave a mark on the whole area.
❌ Clean them from time to time: to prevent dirt and dust from accumulating, we recommend cleaning glass and mirrors once a month to avoid damaging the area and to make removing it much easier.
❌ Avoid products containing ammonia: It is important that you make sure that the products you use to clean your windows and mirrors do not contain ammonia 🚩, since, although they leave a good result, they can damage the area.
We hope that with these little tips and tricks, you will be able to make your mirrors and windows shine so much that you will not even be seen through the windows. But try not to dazzle others!
